Every season, we are blessed with beautiful new arrivals, and there is no better way to welcome them than by giving them names!
We want our loyal YouTube subscribers to help us pick the perfect names for our Kestrels, Barn Owls, and other wildlife as they arrive in nest boxes or hatch.
We have built a brand-new, interactive polling system that runs directly in our YouTube chat. Your suggestions and votes update our live on-screen graphics instantly. Here is everything you need to know to join the fun!
How It Works for YouTube Viewers on @BarnOwlLive
Getting involved is incredibly easy. Just type these commands in the YouTube live chat to interact with our bot!
- Suggesting a Name: Think of a great name? Type !suggest [Name] to instantly add it to the live voting board. (Maximum 8 characters).
- Voting: See a name you love? Support it by typing !vote [Name]. Note: To keep the chat clean, the bot won’t reply when you vote, but you will see your vote counted on the live stream graphic!
- Checking the Time: Want to know how long you have left to vote? Type !polltime to see the exact deadline.
- Checking the Leaders: Curious who is in the lead? Type !results to see the top names battling it out.

Don’t forget: One vote per person! Make sure to watch the live stream graphic to see the real-time leaderboard changes.
Voting Deadlines & Campaigns
All good things must come to an end! Our polls now run on a strict timer to ensure fairness.
- Once the deadline is reached, the bot will automatically lock the poll.
- Any late !vote or !suggest commands will be gracefully declined.
- The website graphic will update to display a “CLOSED” badge.
- Typing !results after the poll closes will announce the final, locked-in winners!
Moderator Guide (The “Opt-Out” System)
To keep the excitement going, our poll runs on an Auto-Approve system. This means that when a viewer uses !suggest, their name is immediately added to the live voting board. Moderators do not need to manually approve suggestions!
However, we rely on our amazing Mod Team to keep the list clean and family-friendly. If someone suggests an inappropriate or duplicate name, Mods can instantly remove it.
